Wife kisses Delhi mayor, shocks oldtimers
Only men are allowed to kiss the mayor, say politicians. Unless the mayor is a
woman, in which case other women can
kiss her.

Oops. Sorry. Nobody said that only men are allowed to kiss the mayor. Imaginations running wild at our workplace. Delhi politicos, or for that matter politicos from anywhere in the country, are hardly likely to say that only men can kiss the Delhi mayor. Please don't sue us. We are people hungry for a bit of humour in our lives, please to understand.
Let's do factual reporting now, which we excel in.
Umm, how can one do factual reporting about a sweet kiss to a politician? M'kay, let me be trying.
On 11 Wednesday 2006, Farhad Suri was elected as mayor of Delhi. Being newly married - though not very young - and therefore believing in sweet kisses and all, his wife Sangeeta could not withhold her happiness and joy and other wifely feelings, and feeling like a glass of excellent lassi, ran forward and hugged kissed the poor wonderstruck mayor.
Whoops! The kiss is unparliamentary or something like that, and some of the oldtimers in the delhi political circles spontaneously combusted. Farhad Suri should have thought about his duties and dignity as Delhi's mayor and first citizen, say some. Some of the younger bunch are amused and feeling all giggly.
The fact is that so far, most of mayors have been the old withered variety, and they defnitley did not go around kissing, like the debauched politicians in the Western countries who are in a clinch everytime they appear in public.
True to form, the noisier bunch is the BJP councillors, who are harping on tradition, and fuming that 'politicians should stay within their limits.' Apparently, regular people are not expected to stay within their limits.
Talk about a bittersweet first day for a new Mayor! A hug from your lovely wife immediately after your victory, and an instant storm in a tea cup. Farhad Suri must be feeling very confused indeed.
