Polio returns: Delhi woes refuse to end
Delhi blames the migrating polio-infected population from Uttar Pradesh.

After Dengue, the national capital is now battling polio. With four cases of polio being reported, the government has gone on a major disease combat mode.
Delhi has been termed as a high risk polio zone and the whole blame is being heaped on neighbouring in Uttar Pradesh. This because, UP is seen as one big source of the polio virus, though there have been intensive pulse polio vaccination measures implemented in the state.
The Health department has said that Delhi has had a history of trouble with the migrating polio-infected population, and that indeed is a cause for worry.
Delhi’s polio worries are said to have begun when two-year-old Sheikh Ashraf from Jahangirpuri, one-year-old Shivender from Badarpur and eight-month-old Sameer Ali from Okhla traveled to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, which are known sources of the virus.
Children traveling to Delhi from states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan who have missed their pulse polio round are seen as the culprits in bringing polio virus to Delhi.
The health care segment has also reiterated that the polio drops being used at the moment are effective enough to combat the virus. The current issue of polio attack is the first in Delhi in 21 months, say reports.
