The whole of India, spearheaded by the media, has a hot topic to ponder about. Dating Allowance!
News reports of Wipro providing dating allowance to its employees is being dissected and discussed every where in the country. The issue came into prominence after news that a Wipro employee's wife has filed a case that her husband started neglected her after Wipro started the allowance.
Even as the issue is heating up, the Wipro employee in the heart of the matter, has given an interesting twist to the whole story. Gaurav Nigam, on Saturday alleged that it was his wife, Tripti, who was actually beating him and he was not the guilty party.
A media report says Gaurav narrated his side of the story saying that he is not paid any dating allowance by the company and that his wife is drawing the name of his company chairman Azim Premji just to harass him.
Gaurav alleged that his wife used to hit him and push him when they got into an argument. She also allegedly put pressure on him to transfer the ownership of his house in Sarjapur Road and car to her name by beating him up.
The 32-year-old technical consultant has been with Wipro for six years now. He has now availed of a temporary transfer to the Gurgaon office, to fight the case, which has been filed by his wife in the Kanpur Magistrate's court.
Gaurav added that his wife Tripti had complained that he, his father, mother, sisters and brothers-in-law had gone to her Kanpur house to kill her. Based on her complaint, the police arrested his parents and he had to get them released after filing a plea in the court.
Wondering why a dating allowance is being talked about here, Gaurav said all he gets from the company is his basic salary, a transportation allowance, a special allowance and Wipro Benefit Plan.
The couple who have been married for the past four years is now living separately. Gaurav had filed for a divorce in April, and she filed a case against him under the Domestic Violence Act this October after the law came into force. Gaurav said the problem started soon after he got married in December 2002 as she wanted everything on her terms and often threatened to book him under Section 498 of the IPC.
Taking the case forward, the Kanpur Magistrate court has issued summons to Premji and company human resources head Pratik Kumar, asking them to appear before it on November 29.
Tripti has alleged in her petition that Wipro's dating allowance was encouraging Gaurav’s extra-marital affairs and claimed that he started neglecting her and the home after he started getting the allowance. However, Gaurav says he has not had any affair with any woman.
