Cybersex inspires new technologies8 February, 2008 People who look for thrills on the Internet may actually inspire and encourage new technologies, says a cybersex expert. A report quotes Dr Trudy Barber as saying that fetishism and deviation in sexuality are helping change the way people use new technology. She believes that cybersex can even influence the invention of new technology. Dr Barber is considered an expert on cyberspace and sexual subcultures. The revelations follow her research on how people's sexual choices help shape new technology. The phenomenon is explained thus: People are inspired by their own sexual inclinations, which results in some innovative uses of technology. Cybersex, that ranges from phone sex to someone who is on the Net for sexual pleasure, has been seen as very influential. The technology of the PC has in fact begun to crawl into people's sex lives and influence them. In the future, one can expect to see sex take a role of pleasure-providing entertainment and computers will have an increasing role to play in such a scenario. Dr. Barber says that Second life, an internet-based virtual world where users assume an alter-ego called an avatar to interact with each other online, is a medium for pleasure. Dr Trudy Barber has in fact found that people who live this second life on the Internet are quick to take on the sexual practices from their regular lives into their second life.
