A police official, crazy about cricket in the strictest sense of the term banged his little nephew’s head on the floor killing the kid, after India's loss to Australia on Monday in the Champions Trophy tournament currently on. The Chandigarh police have registered a complaint against the man.
The accused, assistant sub-inspector Malkit Singh of the Punjab police is said to have killed his two-and-a-half-year-old nephew Lovepreet. The story goes thus: Malkit Singh was watching the crucial Champions Trophy match between India and Australia, played at Mohali near Chandigarh, in their house. An argument with other family members over India's poor show in cricket triggered a ruckus making Singh go mad in anger.
In a fit of rage, he picked up the child and banged his head two-three times on the floor. Before the child's family could react to save the child, the damage had been done.
The child was rushed to a nearby hospital but could not be saved. Singh later banged his own head against the wall, hurting himself. He was also and admitted to the hospital.
The police have registered a case for murder but is yet to arrested Malkit Singh. The doctors statement that Malkit Singh was very weak to answer queries has made him stay in hospital for a while. .
