March 24: Clarence House said on Wednesday that
Prince William and Tom Parker Bowles will be Charles-Camilla
wedding witnesses. Charles' siblings, the Duke of York, the
Princess Royal and the Earl of Wessex, would also be attending
the civil ceremony. Camilla's father Major Bruce Shand and her
daughter Laura Parker Bowles will also be present. Countess of
Wessex and the Princess Royal's husband Rear Admiral Timothy
Laurence also figure in the guest list.
Eton and Oxford-educated Tom Parker Bowles is Charles's
godson.
When asked if William was happy to be witness, a spokesman for
the Prince said: "Very much so."
The Charles-Camilla wedding ceremony, to be conducted by
superintendent registrar Clair Williams, is expected to be
over in barely 20 minutes.
However, as reported earlier, the Queen will not be present at
the civil wedding ceremony.
Before the start of the civil wedding ceremony, a preliminary
meeting will take place, during which the Registrar will
confirm the details of the bride and the groom.
Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles will arrive together
and leave Guildhall by car from Windsor Castle. A 1962 Rolls
Royce Phantom V earlier used by Queen Elizabeth will be used
to drive them around.
In an interesting aside, the registrar who will be conducting
the wedding ceremony admitted to some nervousness. Clair
Williams, Superintendent Registrar of the Royal Borough of
Windsor and Maidenhead, added that she was delighted to have
been picked to perform the job.
“While all weddings are very special to the couples concerned,
this one is particularly important and it’s a tremendous
honour to be part of this occasion and it’s both an honour for
me personally and for the Royal Borough and I’m really looking
forward to this day which I hope will be a very happy and
wonderful marriage ceremony." she said.
