It happens only in India! A former Bihar legislator serving a jail sentence was allowed by cops to visit a massage parlour on his way back from a court hearing.
Following the incident, the state government has suspended five policemen, including an inspector, who were on duty to accompany Rajan Tiwari from the Beur jail to the court, after they were found guilty.
Former legislator Rajan Tiwari, who is facing several criminal charges, including murder, kidnapping and extortion, reportedly visited a massage parlour on Wednesday outside the high-security Beur jail here where he is lodged.
The Bihar government has ordered an investigation into the matter and the probe would be conducted by the Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Kundan Krishnan.
The issue came to light after television channels in Bihar broke the story.
Immediately afterwards, Inspector General (Prisons) Ramesh Lal orderd Beur jail superintendent Dilip Kumar Singh to inquire into how Tiwari had managed to visit a massage parlour while he serving a sentence.
The case record of Rajan Tiwari itself describes the man. He is one of the accused in the 1998 murder of CPI(M) leader Ajit Sarkar. He was earlier charged with threatening businessmen from inside the jail and demanding money. Tiwari , a former independent legislator from Govindganj Assembly seat, he is a member of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP). However, he had lost the Assembly elections of 2005.
Many of Bihar’s politicians who have served jail sentences have similar dubious distinctions against their names. The former Janata Dal-United MP Anand Mohan Singh, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammad Shahabuddin, and former RJD MP Pappu Yadav hit the headlines for holding durbars inside the jail and threatening jail staff. News reports had appeared on their visits to the homes of people outside the jail on way back from court hearings.
