Bombay Rotary Club organises seminars on Arthritis

Mumbai, 3rd June 2005: Good news for people suffering from painful Arthritis. The Rotary Club of Bombay Seacoast and the Rotary Club of Bombay are simultaneously organizing a Public seminar on Arthritis & its Management at the Shri Bhaidas Auditorium, JVPD Scheme, Vile Parle (W) and Rama Watumull Auditorium, KC College, Churchgate respectively on
Sunday 5th June 2005. Both these seminars will be held at the respective venues between 10.30 am – 12:30 pm and will focus on improved surgical techniques and various preventive measures for Arthritis.
Several population studies around the world have shown that approximately 20-30% of the visits to any health-care setting are due to problems related to
musculo-skeletal system. Arthritis, one of the diseases affecting the
musculo-skeletal system, is an inflammation of the joints that is painful and can also change the structure of the joint. According to estimates, one in ten people above the age of 55 suffer from Hip & Knee Arthritis. This results in severe pain, which disturbs normal sleep and acutely restricts normal day-to-day activities. If neglected, this could result in permanent disability.
There are numerous types of arthritis, with the most predominant forms being
osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. They cause pain, swelling and limited movement in the joints and connective tissues of the body.
Leading orthopaedic specialist, Dr. Kaushal Malhan along with Dr. Milind Ghare, Rheumatologist, and Dr. Leena Phadnis, Physiotherapist, all three doctors from Wockhardt Hospital, will conduct the seminar at Vile Parle. The seminar at K.C College will be held by Dr. Ameet Pispati, Orthopaedic Surgeon at Jaslok Hospital, Bhatia Hospital, Dr. Farah Fallahzadeh, and Dr Varsha Chainani, Physiotherapists from Jaslok Hospital.
