May 1, 2005: May 1, 2005: Soon after the tickets for World Cup football 2006 went on sale, black market tickets for sale appeared on auction site e-bay. Fifa and Fermany's organising committee (OK) appealed to people and e-bay against buying tickets in black market, but that doesn't seem to have helped.
E-bay pointed out that no-one was breaking the law. "There are no laws forbidding this sort of trade," according to eBay spokesperson Nerses Chopurian.
The OK has tried its best to sell tickets only trough the proper channels, but the unexpected appearance of world cup 2006 football tickets in popular auction website e-bay seems to have rattled it.
Meanwhile, OK vice-president Schmidt advised people against buying tickets through auction. He said that there are still lots of world cup football 2006 tickets on offer. 2,93 million tickets are on sale. Only the first batch of 812000 tickets have been sold with four more sales periods still to come.
However, OK and FIFA have been flooded with angry mails from football fans who have unable to get tickets for the World cup football 2006 matches. Black market and auction sites have turned out to be a boon for the footall fans.
Tickets are proced from €35 to €600 for the biggest football event running from June 9 till July 9 in 2006.
