England can win World Cup Football 2006 if playes don't lose stamina: Franz Beckenbauer

OUR SPORTS CORRESPONDENT

May 1, 2005: After being a footballing ambassador and the only man to win the World Cup as a player as well as manager, one tends to believe Franz Beckenbauer when he says that England have the best chance in 40 years to win the World Cup Foot Ball 2006 to be held in Germany next year.

Franz Beckenbauer has only one caveat - the players shpuld not be burned out by the time they reach Germany for the Fifa World cup football, which is just a year from now.

"I'm really impressed by the style of the England team and the way they play," Franz Beckenbauer is reported to have said. "I also like the leadership of David Beckham whatever people say about his worth to the team, while Wayne Rooney will bring a refreshing excitement to the tournament. England's young players could make all the difference to their chances."

His only worry is whether playes will retain their stamina by the time they make it to Germany. "They play a lot of games. Some players must play almost 70 games, so when it comes to the European Championship or the World Cup, they often have run out of strength, he voiced his concern.
