Surya Mantha to head Sify’s portal business

10 September, 2005: Surya Mantha will head the Nasdaq-listed Sify’s interactive services business, the company announced on Thursday.
His designation will be Senior Vice President- Interactive Services. Surya will be directing new initiatives aimed at increasing revenues and market share of the internet network and e-services firm.
Surya has spent many years at RealNetworks in Seattle WA, USA and was involved in several marketing and management initiatives.
Surya was the General Manager of broadband solutions, General Manager of Evangelism and General Manager of Solutions and Business Operations for the Real Broadcast Network (RBN), which is real’s content delivery network.
George Zacharias, President & Chief Operating Officer of Sify said Surya will focus on the firm’s online content initiatives and strategies.
Surya has the reputation of increasing the traffic to Real.com, increasing the download and usage of the RealPlayer as well as raising the share of Real format content on the Net via wire and mobile.
Surya also had a stint with PRTM, the leading management-consulting firm for technology-based businesses, where he was a Principal in the Communications Group, a press release said.
Surya, who started his career in the Corporate Research Group of Xerox Corporation, has a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT, Kanpur and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Utah. He is also an MBA from the Simon School at the University of Rochester, NY.
