11 September, 2005: With the parameters of the aviation industry widening, the aviation industry is just not about two aircraft maker slugging it out for orders, specifications of super jumbos, prices of aviation turbine fuel and low-frills airlines.
This could be one realisation which prompted the University of Tennessee to come out with a Master of Business Administration course in Aerospace.
The varsity has in mind aerospace professionals seeking wider knowledge of the industry. And the aerospace-specific master of business administration degree program of the varisty will provide exactly that.
The University will offer the 12-month course to professionals. They can continue to work in their respective areas even as the pursue the masters programme.
The course has now entered its second year. Around 40 per cent of the work is typical MBA content. Another 40 per cent I aerospace related and 20 per cent of the wok would be customized according to the sessions.
Instead of focusing on a wide range of business scenarios, the thrust of the content, students and faculty would be on the emerging scenarios in the industry and its implications, the University’s College of Business Administration informed.
"The program is designed to create leaders who will add value to their organization," said Elaine Seat, director of the university's aerospace MBA program.
Students having at least seven years experience and existing management responsibility are preferred for
the course. Apart from distance education though the Net, the program has five on campus periods and one in
Europe.
