Indian Airlines lures peak-season travelers
BY OUR AVIATION CORRESPONDENT
1 June, 2005: Even promotional fares are getting cut now a days. This seems to be the mantra as the airline fare wars rage. The Indian Airlines has further cut its rates from Chennai to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Bangkok, in an apparent effort to lure more customers in the peak season.
This means that the earlier promotional fare of Rs 10,700 has been cut to 10, 475, with effect from June 1. The earlier fare was announced on May 19.
Passengers from Trivandrum, Calicut, Kochi, Coimbatore, Madurai and Tiruchy would benefit as the domestic leg of the journey (from these places to Chennai) is offered free, as all the travelers have to come to Chennai to fly to these South East Asian destinations.
Another striking feature is that a passenger opting for this plan may fly from Chennai to Singapore and travel to Kuala Lumpur by other modes of transportation which would cost just below Rs 1000 and return to India from Kuala Lumpur using the same ticket.
The passenger may also fly from Bangkok to Singapore by a local airline and return to
India for the same promotional fare introduced now.
Indian Airlines is also working out special promotional packages with Singapore and Malaysian tourism bodies to make the promotional scheme more attractive. This would mean that a three night package for Malaysia would cost just around Rs 15,000.
