Indian IT exports jump 34.5 per cent, says Nasscom

It is raining dollars from software exports. The National Association of Software and Service companies (NASSCOM) on Thursday released figures which showed that the country’s software and services exports recorded a 34.5% growth in the financial year 2004-05, clocking revenues of $17.2 billion. Export revenues were $12.8 billion in 2004-04.
The NASSCOM put the combined software and services revenues at $ 22 billion.
Software and services exports industry is poised to grow around30-32% in the next financial year, according to it.
Revenue from product development and research and development was $3 billion, up from $2.3 billion a year ago.
The information Technology Enabled Services-BPO segment clocked revenues of $5.2 billion, a growth of 44.5% according to NASSCOM.
The industry employee base touched akey figure of one million, according to the NASSCOM survey.
The survey also says the top four players alone have 660 clients in the $ 1million plus category, a jump from 441 a year ago.
The survey says that while the US and the UK remains to markets, Indian firms are gaining ground in other countries like Germany, Japan and Singapore.
While the countries strength lies in traditional areas, NASSCOM sees firms making greater impact in newer services like packaged software implementation, systems integration, network infrastructure management and IT consulting.
