CMAI’s National Garment Fair Rescheduled to August 16

3 August, 2005: Due to devastation caused by the rains in Mumbai during this week causing heavy damage to the venue and surrounding areas, the 46th National Garment Fair organised by Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), scheduled to be held at Bombay Exhibition Center, Goregaon (E) from 3rd to 5th August, 2005 has been postponed to 16th to 18th August, 2005 at the same venue.
All visitors and participants are advised to reschedule their plans and contact CMAI for more details. The garments industry in India is an extremely well organised sector. Garment manufacturers, exporters, suppliers, stockists and wholesalers form the backbone of the industry.
As per available statistics, during April-December 1999-2000, India’s textile exports were at $ 9735.2 million (Rs.440179.4 million). Of this, readymade garments accounted for almost 40%. About 25% of India's total garment exports go to the US.
Readymade garment exports recorded a 6.4% increase in dollar terms and an 11.6% increase in rupee terms during April-December 1999-2000. This is despite the fact that growth was below expectations at home and internationally.
Indian Garment export growth during April-June 1998 Wollen ready made garments recorded a phenomenal 150%
during the period.
Silk ready made garments also made an impressive growth of 58%. For other ready made garments the growth recorded in dollar terms was 39%. The availability of high-skilled cheap labour is one of the driving forces of India’s garment industry.
