In what could be seen as an outcome of the taste of bitter reality, United States President George W Bush has admitted that the US is not winning the war in Iraq.
This statement has come as a stunning u-turn of what he had said earlier. President Bush followed up his statement by announcing that he would expand the size of armed forces “so that the US can fight a long-term war against terrorism”.
In an interview to the Washington Post, Bush said , “we're not winning, we're not losing. Adding that there have been some very positive developments, he said bringing in constitutional democracy in the heart of the Middle East has been a remarkable development in itself.
He said he has asked the new Defense Secretary Robert Gates to come up with a plan to increase the strength of the Army and the Marine Corps. Opining that the way forward in Iraq is by increasing American troops, he said he has directed
Defense Secretary Robert M Gates to do that.
The Defense Secretary would hold elaborate meetings with other senior officials in the Bush Administration and come back t the President with a recommendation. Once the plan gets moving, more US troops
would head for war torn Iraq – to help America win.
