SOHM Inc, a generic pharmaceutical manufacturer, has launched 26 branded generic pharmaceutical products in India.

SOHM’s newly launched products included two powerful and highly consumed antibiotics for respiratory diseases.

SOHM has also launched anti-colds, anti-asthmatics, and cough suppressant products. These products will be manufactured by SOHM’s facilities in India with immediate market response and penetration expected, SOHM said in a press release.

SOHM, that produces and markets generic drugs covering all major treatment categories, has already appointed two distributors in Northern India covering Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh is the largest state of India with a population of almost 1.5 billion people.

Utter Pradesh always experiences severe cold and continuous fog in the months from November through February raising the need for antibiotics, anti-colds, anti-asthmatics, and cough suppressant products during these months, SOHM release said.

SOHM plans to appoint two more distributors for to introduce the company’s generic drugs to the eastern part of India, in addition to the two distributors in UP. SOHM is currently negotiating  with two more distributors for this purpose.

“Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and India’s North Eastern States always have a strong winter season with massive consumption of anti-cold and cough suppressants. This a major market niche for SOHM to capture a large part of the consumption of these products in this area,” Nitin Shah, vice president of Marketing at SOHM India, stated.

The domestic pharmaceutical market in India continues to grow and is currently over $10 billion in annual sales. Annual growth rates have doubled for the domestic market from 7% to 14% over the past couple years.

In July, SOHM, Inc expanded its distribution network for generic pharmaceuticals in four Northern states of India. SOHM expects pharmaceutical sales in India to be a significant contributor to revenue and earnings in 2009.

India is one of the only emerging markets that has many of the leading pharmaceutical multinationals listed and publicly traded on domestic stock exchanges, including Pfizer, Novartis, and GlaxoSmithKline.

By 2010, between $50 and $80 billion of brand-name drugs around the globe will no longer have patent protection. This is huge advantage for Indian based generic pharmaceutical manufacturing companies like SOHM as they can immediately start producing and selling generic drugs at a significant discount while still maintaining significant profit margins.

SOHM’s contract manufacturing in India also allows it to cost-effectively manufacture compounds in very small quantities and complete sales orders that large drug manufacturers cannot profitably complete.

SOHM has accelerated its presence in emerging global drug markets by pursuing acquisitions in under-represented, high growth global generic pharmaceutical markets. SOHM has targeted companies that have an established customer base and positive cash flow with an acquisition pipeline focusing on accretive partnerships that contribute significant cash flow and minimize shareholder dilution.

SOHM signed an exclusive distribution agreement for generic pharmaceutical sales in the Philippines, recently. SOHM expects steady sales increases in the 3rd quarter of 2009 due to purchase orders for generic pharmaceuticals and new generic drug launches. The Philippines pharmaceutical market is valued at US$1.8 billion per year and is growing at over 10% annually making it a viable international target market.

SOHM, Inc. is a generic pharmaceutical manufacturer that produces and markets generic drugs covering all major treatment categories. Global headquarters is located in North America with manufacturing sites in India. Generic pharmaceuticals are exported globally with a focus on distribution in emerging markets in Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia.
