The new drug, sourced from blushwood shrubs, has a rapid action on solid tumours


A naturally derived drug to treat a range of cancers with no known side-effects will soon go for first-in-man studies.

The Australian company EcoBiotics has developed the investigational drug candidate fromĀ  the blushwood shrub found on the Atherton Tablelands, reports said.

EcoBiotics have completed toxicity and safety studies using the new drug in animal models and came out with the conclusion that it is effective to treat several solid tumours.

A single dose injection has been proved effective in animal studies involving dozens critically ill dogs and cats.

EcoBiotics new drug can be applied directly to all of the skin cancers including melanomas, squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma.

The drug which has a faster action on tumour cells, is found to be causing any adverse side-effects common to almost all the currently available treatment options against cancer, reports said quoting chief executive officer of EcoBiotics.

The new drug can be considered for other cancers affecting breast, prostate, colon etc.

EcoBiotics is planning to conduct clinical studies for the drug later this year.
