India’s leading drug maker Dr Reddy`s  Laboratories would soon start selling a low-cost version of the anti-allergy drug desloratadine in US.

Dr Reddy’s generic desloratadine is a low priced copy drug of one of the largest selling anti-allergy medicine Clarinex.

Dr Reddy’s has received final approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) to manufacture and market Desloratadine in strengths of 2.5 mg and 5 mg, the company said in a press statement.

Desloratadine is a drug used to treat allergies. Desloratadine is an oral, long-acting antihistamine that is similar chemically to loratadine (Claritin). It is used to treat the symptoms caused by histamine.

Histamine is a chemical that is responsible for many of the signs and symptoms of allergic reactions, for example, swelling of the lining of the nose, sneezing, and itchy eyes.

Desloratadine is taken by mouth once a day or as directed by your doctor. Do not increase your dose or take this more often than directed. Do not take this medication for several days before allergy testing since test results may be affected.

Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories entered into agreements with Schering and Sepracor in 2008 which allowed Dr. Reddy’s to manufacture and market generic versions of the Clarinex-D-12 Hour and Clarinex D -24 Hour products, with six months marketing exclusivity starting in 2012.

The agreement allowed Dr. Reddy’s to market a generic version of the Clarinex 5 milligram tablet also six months after the launch of the first generic version of that product.

The agreements resolved all pending patent infringement actions filed by Schering and Sepracor against Dr. Reddy’s in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
