Don: The world beckons

SRK's Don to be released in 28 countries.

BY A CORRESPONDENT
October 10, 2006

The new age Don is on a foreign jaunt. Farhan Akhtar’s re-take on Don is set to blast a few fireworks on Diwali screens. But then Akhtar is not willing to stop at that. If the Big B’s class act a few years ago rocked the Indian screen, the new, SRK Don is eyeing overseas presence too.

Not one , not two, but 325 cinemas across 28 countries, it is learnt. UTV Motion Pictures is taking Don to the UK, the US, West Asia, South East Asia, and to almost everywhere. Akhtar’s Shah Rukh starrer has been shot across Malaysia, France and India. With promos of the film already on air, the brains behind the new Don say that they are aware of the challenges ahead and constant comparisons to the 1978 original starring Amitabh Bachchan.

Director Farhan Akhtar, producer Ritesh Sidhwani, music composers Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy asserts that the presentation of Khan’s Don would be with some extra-ordinary stunts with technological advancements. And to top it all, the makers say that they are fans of the original and the new creation is a tribute to the original.

Believe it or not, the new Don take a slot in film history books for the highest ever-print release for a Bollywood film in the overseas market. The film is slated for a Diwali release on October 20.

Don has also entered into an exclusive overseas tie-up with Citibank across the US, the UK, West Asia and South East Asia, wherein the bank is co-promoting its NRI product RCA (Rupee Checking Account) with the film.
