Shankar, the highly successful Tamil
movie director, has reportedly signed
none other than Bollywood superstar
Shah Rukh Khan for his next venture.
This follows Shankar’s successful
films like Anniyan, Nayak and the
recent, phenomenally successful
Rajnikant-starrer Sivaji.
Though the details of the planned film
starring Shah Rukh Khan are not
available, reports say that the film
is bound to be a big-budget one.
Shankar, known for his extravagant
sets and huge budgets, was reportedly
paid Rs 30 million for directing
Sivaji, which had a huge budget of
nearly Rs 400 million.
Shankar has earlier directed Hindi
films such as Jeans (starring
Aishwarya Rai and Amitabh Bachchan),
Nayak (starring Anil Kapoor) and a few
others.
The movie Shankar directed just before
Sivaji was Anniyan, which was released
in 2005.
Reports say that Shah Rukh Khan and
Shankar have been in touch for some
time and are working on the script and
other details of the planned action
thriller.
Shah Rukh Khan is most likely to start
work on Shankar’s film after he
completes Shirish Kunder’s untitled
science-fiction film in which he plays
the lead.
A common thread between Shah Rukh Khan
and Shankar appears to be their love
for FX.
Incidentally, Shah Rukh Khan owns one
of India’s finest FX studios. And,
Shankar is known to use
state-of-the-art FX in his films.
Shah Rukh Khan’s next release is Yash
Raj Films Chak De, which is set to hit
the theatres on August 10, 2007. The
film is directed by Shimit Amin, who
made the crime thriller Ab Tak Chappan,
starring Nana Patekar.
Shah Rukh’s home production Om Shanti
Om, directed by business partner and
choreographer Farah Khan, is slated
for a Diwali release. In the film,
Shah Rukh is paired with debutante
Deepika Padukone.
