SET bags rights of Yash Raj
movies
31 October, 2007
Sony entertainment Television (SET)
has acquired the exclusive world
satellite rights of the five
blockbuster movies from Yash Raj
Films. The line up from the Yash Raj
Films stable in 2007 includes Chak
De India, Tara Rum Pum,
Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, the recently
released Laaga Chunari Main Daag
and Madhuri Dixit's much anticipated
comeback film Aaja Nachle.
According to Kunal Dasgupta, CEO, SET
India, “Yash Raj Films has been on the
forefront of the Indian entertainment
industry for the last five decades.
The latest acquisitions underline the
fact that we believe in bringing only
the biggest and the best of
entertainment to our viewers. This
also reaffirms the strong relationship
we share with eminent
producer-director Yash Chopra since
well over a decade.”
Yash Chopra has said that he has
shared an excellent relationship with
SET over the last 11 years. “In
continuation of that association we
have finalized this five film deal
with SET. We are happy to showcase
these films on SET which provides a
great platform for the television
premiere of the films.”
Chak De India has already
become the mantra of India, having
made a powerful impact on many lives.
In fact, it has taken over where the
gandhigiri fever left off. A
straightforward and hard-hitting film
it has captivated audiences and has
taken the national game of hockey and
its players to a higher level of
recognition. Today however Chak De
is not only referred to in the context
of hockey but any sport in which India
excels. Riding high on its recent
achievement of the best film award at
the fifth Australian Indian Film
Festival (AIFF) in Sydney, the movie
has already achieved cult status
amongst the nation’s youth.
