Oscar 2006-2007:
Ellen DeGeneres to host awards this
year
The 2007 Oscar awards preparations
picking up. Nominations will be
announced soon.

Ellen DeGeneres will be the Oscar
awards night 2007 host this year.
DeGeneres currently hosts the talk
show “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,”. The
show, in 2006, won its third Emmy for
Outstanding Talk Show. Ellen DeGeneres
has also her second Emmy for
Outstanding Talk Show Host for this
programme.
A stand-up comedian and talk show host
par excellence, the Oscar Academy
believes DeGeneres is the best person
to host the awards ceremony. According
to Laura Ziskin, who produces the
awards ceremony, DeGeneres is a
"flat-out entertainer," who
"completely fits the bill." The Oscars
host needs to be great entertainer
without being offensive, and someone
who can keep the show live and moving.
Ellen DeGeneres is no stranger to
hosting high-voltage award nights.
Earlier, she has twice hosted the
Primetime Emmy Awards telecast.
DeGeneres has also co-hosted the show
in 1994. She received fulsome praise
for her deft and sensitive handling of
the Emmy shortly after the 9/11
attacks.
DeGeneres kicked off her career on TV
with the sitcoms Open House
(1989-1990) and Laurie Hill (1992).
She also performed for HBO's Ellen
DeGeneres: The Beginning and Ellen
DeGeneres: Here and Now.
On Februrary 25, 2007, the date for
the 79th Academy awards (Oscar awards)
all her talents will be out on full
show. the function will held at the
same place and location as last year,
the Kodak Theater in Hollywood,
California. ABC will telecast the
Oscar prize program live, the 32nd
time it will be doing so. The channel
has rights to broadcast it for another
seven years.
The Oscar 2007 nominees are expected
to be announced on January 23, 2007.
The nominations will be announced at
the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre.
Among the movies which have appeared
in the longlists of 2007 Oscar awards
in the category for Best Visual
Effects are Casino Royale, Eragon,
Night at the Museum, Pirates of the
Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Poseidon,
Superman Returns and X-Men: The Last
Stand.
This year, 307 films are in the race
for Oscars, the Academy Award prize
for Best Picture. According to the
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and
Sciences, the Oscar 2006-2007
nomination ballots have been mailed to
the 5830 voting members of the
Academy, thr majority of whom are
actors. The last date for receiving
the ballots, set by the Academy, is 5
p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2007. As
always, PricewaterhouseCoopers will be
in charge of organising the counting
and finalising.
The live TV telecast of Oscar awards
is one of the world's most watched
television programmes. J Michael Riva
wll be designing the Oscar telecast
this year. This is the second time
Michael Riva is handling the Oscars
job. The whole Oscar awards 2007
programme will be directed by Louis J.
Horvitz.
