Oscar awards may be a big thing to the
Hollywood society, but when it comes
to teen movies, nothing is as big as
TAFFY. TAFFY is an annual award given
for the best in the movies and the
amazing thing is that, the jury
consists of the teen readers of the
Chicago Tribune.
The young readers of the Chicago
Tribune have awarded the best picture
award to 'Little Miss Sunshine', a
comedy film. The film depicts the
journey of the Hoover family to a
childrens beauty peageant and the
happenings in between.
The TAFFY jury consisted of teen
moviegoers from the ages 13 to 19 and
gave them the opportunity to select
the films they thought the awards
should be given to. Chicago Tribune's
tomorrow edition will have the results
out.
Chicago Tribune Movies editor Maureen
Hart, said, "Teens in the Chicago area
are quite savvy when it comes to
entertainment, and it's clear that
they have good taste in movies. There
are so few opportunities for them to
voice their movie preferences that it
made sense for us to continue our
annual award."
TAFFY or Teen Awards for Favorite
Films of the Year, 2007 winners are
Little Miss Sunshine (best picture),
Abigail Breslin (best actress, little
miss sunshine), Leonardo DiCaprio (
the departed) and johny depp (Pirates
of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest)
best actors. The best hero award was
given to Daniel Craig for his
chiselled performance in the Casino
Royale.
The TAFFY polls were conducted in
January and February and the Chicago
teens cast their votes by mail and
e-mail to pick their favourite movies.
