Oscar statuettes
exhibition to be held in New York

The Times Square Studios in New
York City will showcase fifty new
Oscar statuettes, two Academy Awards
belonging to filmmaking legends and
one Oscar for the public, starting
February 15, 2008.
The free exhibition will be open
from noon to 7 p.m., daily.
An Academy report said that the
Oscar won by Gary Cooper for his
performance as the title character in
Sergeant York way back in 1941, will
be on show at the free exhibition.
Thelma Schoonmaker's Academy Award for
Film Editing for The Departed in year
2006 also will find a prominent place
in the Times Square Studios showcase.
Cooper and Schoonmaker each have
earned three Oscars in their career.
The report pointed out that the 50
new statuettes featured in the
exhibition will be presented to
winners at a future Academy Awards
ceremony. The statuettes on display in
Meet the Oscars, Los Angeles from
February 1 through 23, 2008 will be
presented at the 80th Academy Awards
ceremony on February 24, 2008.
Elaborating on the items on
display, the Academy has sad that each
Oscar weighs 8½ pounds and stands 13½
inches tall. Handmade annually by RS
Owens & Company in Chicago, the
statuettes are made of Britannia, a
metal alloy, and are plated in copper,
nickel, silver, and 24-karat gold.
The 2008 Academy Awards will be
presented on February 24, 2008 at the
Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland
Center, and televised live by the ABC
Television Network at 5 p.m. PT. It is
expected that the presentation will
also be televised live in more than
200 countries worldwide.
