2008 Governor's Ball to be held after
Oscar awards ceremony
2 February, 2008 After the 2008 Oscar awards ceremony on the night of February 24, 2008, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will celebrate the film achievements of 2007 at its annual Governors Ball in the Grand Ballroom at the Hollywood and Highland Centre. Providing a platform for guests to mingle, dance and dine with friends and colleagues, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences would organise the vent to decorate the individuals that bring the magic of the movies to life. The venue is getting a make over as the day approaches. A report said that the Ball is being given an elegant and contemporary decor by Cheryl Cecchetto and the Sequoia Productions team. They will feature a color palette inspired by two of Hollywoods most recognizable icons, the red carpet and the gold Oscar statuette. Master chef Wolfgang Puck will be serving an organic menu created specifically for the event. As many as 1,500 guests will be there at the venue, who will include Oscar winners and nominees, show presenters, performers, and other dignitaries. Meanwhile, the Academy is preparing a contingency plan for the Oscars in case the traditional red carpet event is cancelled due to the writers' strike. Earlier in January 2008, the Golden Globes awards ceremony was cancelled and replaced with a news conference because of the strike by writers over royalties. The back-up show would include a history of the Oscars and film clips. The Academy is currently in talks with the striking writers. The back-up show would also include concepts that are not normally ones that it would have for the show.
