Dubbed as the most efficient seven-seater vehicles currently in the market, the VW Touran and Sharan have a great deal of redesigned elements, including a grille with the air ducts redirected to allow the usual airdams to be blanked-off and allow for smoother airflow over the front of the vehicle.  Further additions include hard compound tyres that enable the cars to decrease rolling resistance.

BlueMotion represents the most fuel efficient model in each of Volkswagen’s passenger car ranges and combines a series of small changes to the vehicle’s body, drivetrain, engine and even the tyres in order to reduce strain on the engine and, in turn, reduce emissions and increase economy. VW has lined up both the vehicles in the BlueMotion range in the UK for prices starting at £16,725 for the Touran and £21,290 for the Sharan.

Both VW Touran and VW Sharan come equipped with revised gearboxes with lengthened ratios in third, fourth and fifth gears. While the VW Touran sports a performance-boosting 1.9-litre, four-cylinder 105 PS engine fitted with a new variable turbocharger, the Sharan incorporates a 2-litre 140 PS TDI . The two vehicles sport oxidation catalysts and diesel particulate filterswhich helps in cutting oxides of nitrogen and carbon particles to almost zero.

The VW Touran gives a combined fuel economy of 52.3 mpg, while the Sharan returns a figure of 47.1 mpg. On the green front, carbon dioxide emissions are reduced to 144 g a km for the Touran and 159 g a km for the Sharan. Both the vehicles come with a slew of standard equipment, including six airbags, ABS, a CD stereo and air conditioning.
