Volvo FM trucks will soon sport new 11-litre engines in their tractor versions.
Volvo has developed a completely new engine for the Volvo FM with a load capacity that makes it ideal for weight-sensitive applications such as tanker and bulk transport.
The new engine is aimed at luring more customers to a new segment where Volvo sees growth potential. The new 11-litre engine boats of less weight and is about 140 kg lighter than the larger 13-litre D13 engine. With such a light weight engine the company aims at making high load capacity possible. Besides, The D11 engine would also boast of exemplary performance and fuel efficiency, the source added.
The company intends to showcase the 11-litre engine fitted Volvo FM as an ideal truck in weight-sensitive segments. The new engine enables the tractor with a powerful driveline, high driver comfort and optimum load capacity. These apart, the truck is seen as having the potential to attract more customers in the coming days, it has been pointed out. The company says the FM truck fitted with the new tractor 11-litre engineĀ excels in less fuel consumption and added performance levels.
The new Volvo FM with D11 engines will be available in a 390hp, 1880 Nm torque version as well as a 430hp, 2100 Nm version.
Volvo has designed this new D11 engine keeping in mind the Euro 4 and forthcoming Euro 5 standards. It provides a high power output at both low and high engine revs and is said to be boasting of an economy range between 1,050 and 1500 rpm. The 11-litre Volvo FM has the same design as the rest of the FM range, and has an upgraded exterior. The cab interior has been completely redesigned to provide optimum conditions for safe driving and flexible storage.
The 11-litre engine Volvo FM tractor version is available as either a 4×2 or a 6×2 pusher axle vehicle.
