Keeping in line with its tradition, Japanese auto giant Toyota is observing June as the Green Month. The company has for the past 35 years been observing June as the green month. The Green Month is aimed at engaging Toyota staff in activities that promote awareness of environmental issues and practical measures to help the planet, they said. The efforts of the company underlines the commitment that stretches beyond business moves that make news, it is felt.
As always, this June, Toyota in Britain has lined up a slew of activities built round its Three Rs concept – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. The initiative supports Toyota’s global environmental leadership within the industry. Toyota has set a goal of achieving 95 per cent waste recycling, supported by a new collection and disposal system.
To make this effective and possible, Toyota employees have been given reusable water bottles, USB sticks which would help reduce the amount of paper used and a guide on how to snip carbon footprint.
Investment in new software by Toyota has reduced the number of computer servers used by 90 per cent and lighting in the building has been reprogrammed to an ‘off’ default setting. Toyota is said to be pumping in close to US$1 million every hour in new technologies which would reduce the impact of vehicles on the environment, including new plug-in hybrid vehicle technology and more advanced fuel cell vehicles.
These various initiatives, though launched as part of Green Month, is being mulled over to be taken forward to the coming years. As part of this thought, Toyota plans to make these initiatives contribute to its Global Vision 2020. It is a known fact that the company’s vision also aims at addressing the challenges of global warming and climate change.
