The 2012 BMW 6-series, with a panoramic sunroof, has been caught testing in Munich, Germany.
The upcoming car, which is expected to make its world debut at the Auto Shanghai on April 19, 2011, was partially camouflaged at the rear, which hid the rear windshield and taillights. The spy photos suggest that the new 6-series would be based on the BMW Concept 6 Series Coupe that the company revealed at the 2010 Paris Auto Show.
The new BMW 6-series will sport a 3.0-litre, V6, petrol engine that would put out 320 bhp of maximum power. The Beemer could also come with a 4.4-litre V8, belting out a whopping 407 bhp. The engines will likely be mated to a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic gearbox. However, the car we are told will run only on premium gas.
Safety features on the upcoming 6-series include ABS, traction control, BMW’s Active Roll Stabilization, Dynamic Drive Control, driver and passenger airbags, curtain airbags, anti-skid system, blind-spot alert, rear- and top-view camera (optional) and lane-departure warning. Steering-linked dynamic headlights and navigation system will be standard. It could also feature new design cues such as frameless doors and LED lighting.
When launched, the BMW 6-series would lock horns with the Audi A7 Sportback and the Mercedes-Benz CLS.
