The car concept has already been voted as the ‘Best Concept’ by AutoWeek Magazine when it debuted at the Geneva auto show last March. The Saab 9-X BioHybrid was then voted the ‘Specialty Concept Car of the Year’ by a jury of 25 professional North American automotive journalists.

The concept vehicle comes with a new design approach for a compact vehicle. Incorporated with a BioHybrid turbo engine, the concept has been termed as an undoubtable winner and many are looking forward to its commercial launch. A clear example of a future Saab compact car would look like, the car would boast of all that the younger generation looks forward in terms of performance and high-tech communications, sportiness and comfort.

The 9-X BioHybrid is expected to demonstrate the potential for ultra-efficient power from a 200 hp (147 kW), 1.4-liter BioPower turbo engine backed by GM’s next-generation hybrid system. The projected combined cycle CO2 emissions of just 105 g/km on E85 fuel are expected to stand testimony to this. The car comes with a driver-focused cockpit design, plus innovative and seamless connectivity for personal devices. The rear cargo deck is sad to be an example of a low friction loading system. In short, the 9-X BioHybrid will exude sportiness in design as well as performance.

The design of the car is an example of active aerodynamics that helps cut drag and assures fuel economy. It sports a smooth fuselage bodywork sans any visible handle or door mirrors. According to expert reviews, the shape of the 9-X is right for a car of its size, and the longer roof line helps the aerodynamics as well as providing more rear headroom and interior space.

Saab is also said to be associating with Sony Ericsson to get a seamless in-car connectivity for a range of devices. A wireless interface for streaming data, entertainment and satellite navigation functions come due to this association.
