This is no beauty we are talking about – but at least, the recently unveiled Metro Taxi has put some thought into what Americans would like in a metro taxi cab.

The MetroKing replaces the pickup bed with a passenger compartment of its own design that features room for six occupants. The new cab will be totally aligned with the Disabilities act for the Americans. Through a side access ramp a wheel chair could be rolled in without much effort. This area also accommodates strollers, carriages or other oversize items and the luggage compartment is unconventionally near the driver’s seat. There is no place for passengers near the driver. The passenger compartment though features standard air conditioning for passengers.

The MetroKing offers 32.5″ wide doors for easy passenger access, comfortable seating with limousine like leg room and headroom which accommodates your tallest passengers. The passenger module in the MetroKing is also designed to be removed from the chassis, refurbished and mounted on a new chassis. This extends life and significantly reduces ownership costs.
The chassis for Metro Taxi’s cab selected is GM’s Colorado. The Colorado offers a choice of state-of-the-art drivetrain packages including 5 cylinder 242 HP engines for optimal power, economy and availability of maintenance parts.
MetroKing will either launch with General Motors 185-horsepower 2.9-liter four-cylinder engine or the larger 3.7L inline-five with 242-horsepower. In either case the vehicle will be equipped with four speed transmission.
It may not be as stylist as the London Black Cab, but at least this one is distinctive enough to have its own identity.
