Mahindras plan Bolero, Scorpio, Xylo exports to China

Mahindra and Mahindra is looking at making a splash in China by lining up exports to the communist nation. The company which is fast readying its fuel-efficient SUV models in the United States, will see China as one of the most potential markets overseas.

Products that are getting ready for exports to China include Scorpio, Bolero, Xylo and the pickup trucks. M&M is said to have bagged a few export enquiries from China and there are plans to launch its products there. M&M currently has a presence only in the tractor segment through Mahindra China Tractors, a joint venture company between M&M and Jiangling Motors Company.

The Indian major has also bought 51 per cent stake in Jiangsu Yueda Yancheng Tractor Manufacturing Company, which is China’s third largest tractor company. The company is also said to be evaluating the feasibility of earmarking China as its global export hub for its tractors through its Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Sector. M&M has a 100 per cent subsidiary, Mahindra USA, which assembles products for the American market.

According to the company, Mahindra (China) Tractor Co. Ltd. manufactures tractors for the growing Chinese market and is a hub for tractor exports to the USA and other western nations. Now, with the China export plans gaining momentum, the Mahindras believe that after gaining its prominence in China in the next few years, it would be able to become the number one tractor company in the world.

The company which has a sizable presence in various continents has subsidiaries such as Mahindra Europe Srl. in Italy, Mahindra USA Inc., Mahindra South Africa and Mahindra (China) Tractor Co. Ltd. The company has already gained a name as the third largest tractor company in the world and is also the largest manufacturer of tractors in India with sustained market leadership of around 25 years. It designs, develops, manufactures and markets tractors as well as farm implements.
