Jaguar is planning a break-through in the small car segment to take on BMW’s 3 Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes C Class sedans. But the actual launch is going to be only in 2015.
The Jaguar X760 (codename for the small car) is expected to carry over design cues from its big brothers XF and XJ. The typical Jaguar big slatted grille will prevail as such and even the rear would get XJ inspired tail lights. The interiors of X760 could be derived from XF interiors with a good dose of modern sleek elements.
The baby Jaguar would get engines from the Range Rover Evoque. Expect a 2.0 litre Ford Ecoboost engine or a 2.2 litre diesel too. These motors will be mated to a ZF 8 speed automatic transmission. A 3.0 litre V6 turbo diesel, a hybrid version combining the V6 with a 47 hp electric motor, is also anticipated. Rear wheel drive will be the preferred drive system for the baby Jaguar.

Jaguar will make a stand-alone platform to build the X760. It is speculated that a new bespoke Premium Lightweight Architecture may be designed for the baby Jaguar which could also find its usage in the next-generation XF.
Jaguar X760 has to face competition not just from the German trio (Benz, BMW and Audi) but also in the form of Cadillac CTS and Lexus IS. We have to wait and see as to how Jaguar will go ahead in developing the X760 and pitch it competitively. Expect this little Jaguar to be launched by 2015.
