Harley wants to popularise motorcycling among women

Harley Davidson is calling all women, offering them an opportunity to live life adventurously, on the road, and on a Harley. The iconic American motorcycle manufacturer has unveiled two global initiatives solely aimed at women.
The two initiatives, namely Let Freedom Ring promotion and We Ride – The Harley-Davidson Guide for Women, have been aimed at luring women all over the world to ride motorcycles. The bike giant has found that the number of women who have purchased new Harley-Davidson motorcycles has tripled over the past 20 years, with women now accounting for nearly 12 percent of new Harley-Davidson motorcycle purchases.
Detailing the initiatives, Harley Davidson officials said that Let Freedom Ring is to encourage women to learn to ride and help celebrate women who have a passion for freedom and adventure on two wheels. The promotion is available only to women who have graduated from a Rider’s Edge(R) course and purchased a new Harley-Davidson or Buell motorcycle between June 2, 2008, and October 1, 2008.
According to Harley Davidson, eligible women will receive a ring custom-designed by Karen Davidson, daughter of Harley-Davidson styling legend Willie G. Davidson and great-granddaughter of one of the company’s founders.
Meanwhile, the We Ride initiative is all about an overview on what a woman rider who is interested in riding needs to know. It presents information on how and where women can learn to ride with details on the Rider’s Edge New Rider Course, the best way to fit a motorcycle for a woman’s ergonomic and functional needs, and getting involved and staying active with riding groups. Harley Davidson said that the campaign details are available on its website.
These apart, the motorcycle manufacturer is also hosting free women-only Garage Parties at Harley dealerships across the United States in an effort to offer a non-intimidating environment for women to discover how they can get involved with motorcycles. The initiative also makes it possible for women riders to meet other women with a flair and desire for riding, says Harley.
