The new Sportster from Harley Davidson is priced pretty low for a Harley at $7,899 MSRP. It might work. The Iron 883 is a pretty stripped down motorcycle, suitable for buyers to customise the way they want.

Harley Davidson is not exactly in good shape right now – last week, the company announced 1,100 job cuts in the next two years, closing some faciltiies and several other cost-cuting measures.

Harley Davidson faced a serious sales drop in the third quarter of this financial year in the US. There is a silver lining, but its not in the US – Europe and UK sales actually rose by 3 % in the same period.

Harley is hoping that the new Sportster Iron 883 can buck the trend, and bring in some new customers.

Most customers of the Sportster range are first-time buyers, just getting into the cult of Harley. Almost 75% of Sportster owners are new to the Harley-Davidson brand.

The Harley Davidson Iron 883 gets its motive power from the Evolution powertrain. Featuring Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), a broad torque curve, all-black looks from fender to fender, side mounted license plate, low rise drag style handlebar, and that distinctive Harley V-Twin sound, the Iron 883  is the perfect motorcycle for entry into the cult.
