Danica Patrick of IndyCar may sign up for NASCAR for the 2010 season, media reports said. This will be Danica’s debut in the NASCAR series if the talks go through, ESPN and several other websites reported.

Talks between Danica Patrick’s managers and the NASCAR team JR Motorsports are said to be in the final stages. A person close to the development was quoted as saying that it will be a surprise if the deal doesn’t go through. Discussions are believed to be on regarding the fees that Danica will get if she joins JR Motorsports.

JR Motorsports is owned by Dale Earnhardt  Jr. Earnhardt was reported as telling a website that Danica Patrick was keen on joining NASCAR. He said that most people did not believe that Danica was serious about joining NASCAR, but he said that one day, she was going to do it. He admitted that talks are on between his team and Danica Patrick for a NASCAR deal. It is speculated that the deal will be for a two-year duration.

Of course, NASCAR has always been the domain of ‘manly men’. There are many doubters who think it won’t be possible for a woman, however good she is, to drive these heavy hulking cars. Wthere that is true or not, we shall see very soon indeed. But there is no way the entry of Danica Patrick into 2010 NASCAR will be a negative factor in publicity – the visibility of the sport is likely to go up a lot with her entry.

Danica Patrick is currently signed up with Michael Andretti for Indycar. Her sponsor is Godaddy.com. She regularly appears in advertisments for GoDaddy on TV – usually some sexy take on the whole hosting thing. Here is one of here famous ads – the GoDaddy Enhancement ad by Danica Patrick.

Ooh baby. By the way, that particular look Danica Patrick is giving the camera - back to the viewer, looking back over the shoulder - has been scientifically known as an invitation for something. We have forgotten what though.

According to unconfirmed reports, Danica Patrick has asked for a fee of $300,000 per race to compete in Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series races. If she has to run a truck race and a Nationwide race on the same weekend, the price is $600,000, they said. Some other reports say that Danica is not too keen on the money-part, since NASCAR brings wider publicity and exposure.

Danica Patrick has become an established figure in the Indycar circuit, and has shown promise as a good driver. She had finished in the third-place in Indianapolis in 2005.

Her name was in the news when the newly launched American team for Formula One – USF1 – was announced. However, it was speedily discounted. The reason was that while she was a good enough driver alright, she was ‘too big’ and expectations levels were too high. If she joined a Formula One team, people would expect her to win – and that is not likely with a new team. USF1 team bosses had said that Danica Patrick is more likely to go into NASCAR and make a fortune anyway in 2010.

ESPN reported that if Danica Patrick doesn’t get approval from NASCAR, she will probably move to Auto Club Speedway the next week.  Even with a NASCAR deal in her bag, Danica will continue to race for Indycar.

It is estimated that Danica Patrick earns $2.5 million per annum from her deals with Bell Helmets, Tissot, AirTrain Airways, Peak Antifreeze and Samsonite.

Danica Patrick’s celebrity status extends outside the race track too. When Sports Illustrated airbrushed a tattoo on Danica’s lower back, it created a flutter. Her spokesperson later said that Danica was aware of the change and was comfortable with it. Danica has been sporting a tattoo of a modified American flag on her lower back for some time, and has modeled several times with it, even in a previous edition of Sports Illustrated.
