Danica Patrick  will once again take a shot at a podium position in the Detroit Indy Grand Prix presented by Firestone, Round 16 of the 2008 IndyCar Series. The Detroit Indy Grand Prix wil take place at the Raceway at Belle Isle, Detroit, Michigan, on August 31, 2008.

Danica Patrick came second the in the Indy Grand Prix in 2007, after Tony Kanaan. In 2008, Danica Patrick is sixth in series points. In the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma County held on the Infineon raceway on August 24, 2008, Danica Patrick stood fifth.

Danica was happy about finishing fifth and is optimistic about the Detriot Indy Grand Prix, though she said that passing would be very difficult on the Belle Isle raceway. She said that lots of crashes happen when passing is tried, and that she would have to rely on strategy, fuel saving, and pit stops.

Danica Patrick also said that the Detriot Indy Grand Prix would be harder because of the arrival of Champ Car competitors to the IndyCar Series.

On April 20, 2008 Danica Patrick became the first woman in IndyCar history to win a race, in Indy Japan 300.

Danica Patrick, the pinup girl for Honda Civic, will test for F1 in November 2008 for Honda. Indycar drivers have not fared well in F1, except Jacques Villeneuve who was was the 1995 IndyCar champion and went to be the 1997 F1 champion, no mean feat. The others like Michael Andretti, Scott Speed, and Scott Dixon all fell by the wayside.

But Honda would love Danica to qualify for F1, considering the PR and advertising mileage they would get out of her; that is if Fernando Alonso, who is rumoured to join Honda, doesn’t chew her up first. But look at it this way, at least purely in advertising stakes, they would be dynamite together.
