Australia will have to wait for more time to see the right hand drive version of Cadillac as the company has decided to put off the launch date indefinitely. The reason being said is that the Australian automotive market has been sucked int the ongoing global financial crisis.

Sources said that the situation has forced car company GM Holden to take a decision so that it does not go ahead and introduce a new brand into the troubled Australian market at this juncture.  Significantly, the Cadillac CTS was well received down under since it was revealed at the Australian international motor show in October 2008. The response was termed as excellent when the car rolled out.

However, the global scenario seems to have rubbed off on the Aussie car mart too, it is believed. Industry observers said that the market for new cars has continued to plummet disastrously and also the exchange rate has worsened for imports. GM is now looking at focusing more on developing alternative fuel technologies.
As per this plan, the car maker seems to be now looking at establishing a second car assembly facility at its Southern Australia plant aimed at building a new fuel-efficient four-cylinder small car. The future generation Commodores will be make along with the new models, it has been pointed out by various reports. Saying that the company’s premium brands such as Saab and Hummer, will continue to focus on sales and planning for future introductions of new models, an industry top official said that GM Holden will now give a thrust towards its core operations that include a range of alternative fuel technologies.

Reports added that the company has confirmed that it would indeed focus on its core business including the introduction of a new small car to be built in Adelaide from 2010, and the Cadillac launch was not significant for the time being. It is being expected that GM Holden might not go in for any  job cut along with the decision to postpone the Cadillac launch.
