The 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo, the seventh generation version of the company’s flagship model, will get a new engine – a first in the 35-year history of the car.

The Porsche 911Turbo’s six-cylinder 3.6 unit will be replaced by a 3.8-unit producing a maximum output of 500 bhp (368 kW), that comes with direct fuel injection and twin turbochargers with variable turbine geometry.

Customers also have the option to combine the new six-cylinder with Porsche’s seven-speed PDK double clutch gearbox.

Porsche has avoided the PDK gearchange system – in which users can use buttons on the wheel to shift gears – that came in for much criticism.

The 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo gets the more conventional gearchange system using paddles; right paddle to shift up the gear and left to shift down.

Customers can also opt for the Sports Chrono Package turbo, which features both the paddle shifts and the PDK button system along with integrated displays for Launch Control and Porsche’s Sport/SportPlus mode.

The company claims that in the new car carbondioxide emissions have been reduced by 18 per cent, compared to the previous model.

Porsche has said that the 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo requires just 11.4 – 11.7 ltr/100 km (or 24.8 – 24.1 mpg) under the EU5 standard.

The 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo can go from 0 to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds, which is 0.3 seconds better than the previous model. The maximum speed of the car is 312 kmph or 194 mph vis a vis 192 mph of the previous model.

As far as driving dynamics go, the conventional Porsche Traction Management (PTM), all-wheel drive and Porsche Stability Management (PSM) can be enhanced by optional Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV).

PTV is a new variable torque distribution technology that distributes the power between the rear wheels which enhances the steering response and helps in getting better precision and agility in corners.

The car comes with touch-screen Porsche Communication Management system with both Bluetooth mobile telephone and i-Pod connectivity.

The 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe and Cabriolet will be available from November 21, 2009 at a price of £101,823 for the Coupe and £109,048 for the Cabriolet.

The car will be available in Canada from January 2010 at a price of $165,300 for the 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe and $178,400 for the Turbo Cabriolet.
