BMW will unveil its new 2010 BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Saloon, the most fuel efficient car in the company’s 3-series saloon line up, at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.BMW claims that the car will consume just 4.1 liters per 100 kilometers, providing higher fuel efficiency than all the cars in its 3-series line-up.

The 2010 BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Saloon comes with a 2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with an aluminum crankcase, with a longer rear axle transmission ratio and lowered suspension.
Along with turbocharging with variable intake geometry, the car also features piezoinjectors accompanied by the common-rail direct fuel injection technology.
A two-mass flywheel with a centrifugal-force pendulum, that is fitted between the engine and transmission, reduces engine vibrations even at very low engine speeds.
The 2010 BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Saloon is also the greenest car in BMW’s line-up with CO2 emissions of just 109g/km, well below the standard of 110 grams per kilometer.
The car’s drag coefficient is 0.26.
The engine is capable of generating a maximum output of 120kW/163 hp at an engine speed of 3,500-4,200 rpm. The peak torque stands at 360 Newton-meters/265 lb-ft at 1,750-3,000 rpm.
The car incorporates a number of technologies in order to provide users with enhanced fuel efficiency. The Auto start-stop function switches off the engine automatically when the car is not moving.
Similarly, the car’s Brake Energy Regeneration technology saves consumption of fuel when a person applies the brakes to stop the car. The gearshift point indicator tells the driver to change the gears when required.
The car also features an EPS Electronic Power Steering that adds to the improved fuel efficiency.
Other fuel efficiency features include aerodynamically optimised alloy wheels along with energy saver tyres.

The car can go from zero to sixty-two miles per hour in 8.2 seconds, with a top speed of 137 miles per hour.
The 2010 BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Saloon also features a longer rear axle transmission ratio for improved performance.
Interior features include a multi-function leather steering wheel, rear park distance control, two-zone air-conditioning, and extended lighting.
The car will be launched in January 2010.
Though BMW has not indicated the price of the car, but it is speculated that the 2010 BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Saloon will be available at the same price as the existing standard BMW 320d SE Saloon.
