The grand sports meet, Navi Mumbai krida Mahotsav organized by the Navi Mumbai Krida Sankul(NMKS) is expected to attract more than 10,000 students this year. In an attempt to make commuting esy for residents of Navi Mumbai, the civic body hopes to install advanced type of skywalks will have elevatiors ofr handicapped people and senior citizens.presently, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NNMC) has proposed skywalks at five place-near D.Y.Patil stadium, Ghansoli, Airoli, Vahsgaon.These are accident-prone zones identified by the NMMC for the project, said Sandeep Naik, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Wednesday while speaking to the press. Naik was updating the press about the development work undertaken by NMMC. The NMMC will discuss the scheme with CIDCO if required and work out things in tandem. NMMC Budget 2008 – 2009 Presented In General Body.
The NMMC budget 2008 – 09, with an increase of Rs. 118 Crores, 92 lakhs 7 thousand was presented to the general body meet. The budget approved by the standing committee was presented of 1419 Crore 18 lakhs 38 thousand. Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik presented the budget to Mayor Anjani Bhoir at the general body. The budget shows revenue of Rs. 285 Crore from cess, Rs. 200 Crore from property tax, sale of Morbe water will generate revenue of Rs. 28 crore. In the expenditure receipts, 15 new heads have been added. The general body is expected to begin deliberations on the budget from the 27th of this month. That will leave them with only 3-4 days for discussing the budget for after March 31 it is deemed to be approved......

After Mumbai’s ambitions plans to have 50 skywalks, it's now the turn of Navi Mumbai to build five such modern structures on the two major highways- Sion-Panvel and Thane-Turbhe-passing through the satellite township.These skywalks are proposed at Vashi, nerul, Koperkhairne, Ghansoli and Airoli."These have been several instances of fatal mishaps in these spots. Most of them were pedestrians who were trying to cross the road and tracks while trying to catch a train. NMMC Approves starting of NMMT bus for students.
The proposed bus service for school students will be started as per demand of students and parents within NMMC area and upto 20 kms beyond NMMC jurisdiction, subject to a minimum of 60 students from schools on each route. Each student will be charged Rs 100 in addition to the bus far for the independent bus service for students only. Lack of interest and poor attendance mars budget discussions at Nmmc general body meeting.
And while the Standing Committee meets continue to set the right trend in all public affairs, the general body meetings are always the unfortunate realities of democracy. Once again setting the wrong precedent, corporators showed lack of interest coupled with poor attendance that marred the budget discussions of the general body meeting.

NMMC Begins Pre-Monsoon work in the city.
Many of the storm water drains in Vashi and Koperkhairane were cleaned by NMMC. The work has been started as a part of the pre monsoon work of NMMC.
Storm water drains in various nodes of Vashi and Koperkhairane were cleaned by the civic body. Raising concerns over the problem of water logging during monsoons, the drains were cleaned by the civic body. It may be recalled that in the Standing Committee meeting of month of January 2009, Chairman Sandeep Naik too had appealed to the administration to take care of the road work to ensure that residents are not inconvenienced during monsoon.
Looks like with the commencement of the pre-monsoon work, the administration has taken the appeal of the Chairman Sandeep Naik seriously.
Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik solicits co –operation from citizens to pay additional tax for using additional FSI.
Thane guardian minister, Ganesh Naik has brought some respite to the property holders in the city by ordering a stay on the notices issued by municipal commissioner Vijay Nahata to pay up additional property tax to those utilizing additional floor space index (FSI), permitted by CIDCO.
Meanwhile, Naik has assured during the elections that there will be no increase in property tax for the coming 20 Years. Now, Since NMMC has increased the rateable value and served notices to the additional FSI users to pay up additional property tax, the citizens are perplexed about NMMC’s Decision.
Naik had urged the citizens to co-operate by paying additional property tax for using additional FSI, which he says is mandatory. He even advised the citizens that those who have built additional FSI and have not obtained the Mandatory Occupancy Certificate and/or Commencement Certificate; they should obtain it at the earliest and fulfill the legal terms for making their constructions authorized.

Labour and Enviornment Minsiter Ganesh Naik has ordered the proper rehabilitation of an estimation of an estimated hawkers who have been displaced by the ongoing work of Sanpada-Palm Beach Flyover.
Among those who have lost theirs means of livelihood were vegetable vendors and some women’s self help groups. On 10 January, they went with their grievances to labour minister Ganesh Naik immediately directed NMMC that the affected persons be provided with a suitable plot where they can continue their businesses.
“They should be rehabilitated in the same manner as the Project Affected Persons (PAPs),” the minister told the NMMC officials present on the spot.

Celebration of Mahashivratri at Bhavkaleshwar Temple a vision of Ganesh Naik
The Bhavkaleshwar temple at Khairane evokes blessed feelings as one, steps into it. And there is more to the reason of building the temple in the midst of the quarries than what meets the eyes. Nearly 15 years ago the Naik family had found a stone in the shape of Lord Nandi and since then it was worshiped at the temple sight. However, after Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik’s wife saw a dream, the leader decided to build a temple here. The temple construction work which was on for a decade saw the personal involvement of GM Ganesh Naik. The temple is built on an area of nearly 2000 sq. ft. A diya bought from Madras is another highlight of the temple. The temple came alive during the Mahashivratri celebrations when devotees flocked to it in great numbers. The festival of Shivartri is celebrated in the honor of Lord Shiva on the thirteenth or fourteenth day during the month of February or March. Maha Shivratri means “the big night of Lord Shiva” and during the entire night devotees worship Lord Shiva. Hundreds of people stood in queue before the temple with flowers, leaves, coconuts to worship Lord Shiva. Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik had initiated the drive to provide Additional FSI Decision to be Taken Before Winter Session
Standing up for these families and to provide them with legal houses, Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik had demanded to provide additional FSI to slum and gaonthan areas. For this purpose, a survey was even conducted in Bonkande village, a report of which was sent to the Chief Minister. This had come as a ray of hope for these families with the Minister stating that the final decision of this would come prior to the state winter session.

The villages situated near MIDC like Pawne, Mahape and many others were forced to live in darkness due to frequent power cuts. However, Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik came to the aid of the people and now MSEDC has resolved this issue.
For the past many years, MSEDC has been distributing power to the villages of Mahape, Pawne, Digha and Turbhe through the MIDC feeder. However, these areas used to face power cuts for 24 hours in a week, and sometimes to even 36 hours. With little power supply, the villagers also faced the issue of shortage of water supply. Looking at the problems faced by the villagers, Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik directed MSEDC to provide power to these villages through a different feeder.

The celebrations begun at 9 am when NCP candidate Sanjeev Naik had a clear lead of 350 votes after the initial five rounds of counting for the Thane Parliamentary constituency held at Wagle Estate in Thane on Saturday. Giving a big blow to Shiv Sena-BJP alliance in its traditional bastion, Naik, the elder son of Maharashtra Minister Ganesh Naik, won by a clear margin of 49,020 votes becoming the first Member of Parliament from Navi Mumbai.
While Naik grabbed 3,01,000 lakh votes, his rival Vijay Chauguley of Shiv Sena polled 2,51,980 votes. After the victory, a jubilant Sanjeev Naik had only two sentences to say. Ganesh Naik Promises to get funds for city court building.
Mr.Naik gave this assurance to a delegation of Navi Mumbai Advocate Bar Association led by its President H B Patil who met the minister recently with regard to the construction of the court building in the city.
Mr Naik further added that the state finance Ministry would be requested to fund the required amount for the court building construction as a special consideration.

NMMC Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik re-visited the nullah cleaning work across the city to inspect if the administration had indeed followed up on the instructions given during his earlier visit. However, disappointingly, nullah cleaning work was still lacking in many areas.
While the Chairman stated that in a few days he would be yet again carrying out a surprise inspection of the work done, we asked him when Navi Mumbaikars could expect the pre-monsoon work to be completely over. To this he stated that while this was the work of the administration, their involvement has definitely sped up the process. The chairman visited CBD, Vashi and APMC for his visit and has again given out instructions to the respective depts to speed up the work. The newly developed municipal school at Turbhe stores “Dr. Babsaheb Ambedkar School no. 20” was recently inaugurated at the hands of Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik.
With an expenditure of Rs. 91 lakhs, NMMC has built this advanced one floored school building at Turbhe stores. The school includes 19 classes out of which 17 are for classrooms, one for staff room and one for a computer lab. The municipal school Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar School No. 20 at Turbhe was inaugurated at the hands of Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik. Present along with the minister was NMMC Education Committee Chairman Ravi Iyer, former education committee chairman Ram Vichare, corporator Ravindra Ethape amongst others. Ganesh Naik inaugurated the school by lighting the high mast light installed in the compound .Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik expressed happiness and stated that they would try to introduce classes till X in this school.
As of now, every municipal school has standards only upto to seventh standard.

Standing committee sanctions Rs. 50 Crores for making power lines underground
The NMMC Standing Committee has sanctioned Rs. 51 Crores to make power line in villages in Navi Mumbai underground. The proposal does not include Digha village, Mahape village and Adhavli-Bhutavli.

Naik, who is also state excise and environment minister, has been pursuing the authorities to push the project, which will connect Nerul to Gateway of India.
"Poor transport facilities still remains a hindrance for the city as commuters are stuck in heavy traffic and commuting to Mumbai takes hours. The water transport project can prove to be a boon as people can reach Mumbai in just 30 minutes by jetty. I request the CM to sanction the land at the earliest to facilitate movement on this stretch and provide commuters a viable alternative," the minister said.
Expressing unhappiness with CIDCO's system of allocating land to social organisations, Naik said, "I defer with the system as only the rich organisations will benefit from this system."

Vashi railway station is known for its state of the art infrastructure and design. It can also be termed as the busiest railway station of Navi Mumbai. Built in the year 1998, the station is also known as the International Infotech Park built on international standards. However, today it reels under many problems. It has been a rather sorry state of affairs of the Thane bus service. In his recent visit to Thane, MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik stated that the best of bus services must be provided to the citizens. He was speaking during the launch of the bus service from CST to Hiranandani in Thane. With the increasing population and limited bus service, there was a demand for this.
The bus will leave from Hiranandani at 8 in the morning and will reach CST at 5.20, depending on the needs of the commuters, the frequencies of the buses would be increased.

Guardian Ganesh Naik takes up cause of Vashi home owners
Thane District Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik has agreed to intervene and find an amicable solution to the burning issue of illegal extensions in row houses of sector 6, 7 and 8 in Vashi. The decision came after some residents approached the minister for help. Naik is expected to hold a meeting with both aggrieved residents of the row houses and officials of the NMMC in the next two days to resolve the matter, sources confirmed.
This has brought some relief to residents of these row houses who have been spending sleepless nights ever since NMMC began the survey and started issuing notices to families, who had extended their properties.
The NMMC Standing Committee approved the last phase of work inside condominiums worth nearly Rs. 37 Crore this week.
Approvals of nearly Rs. 33 Crore for executing work inside condominiums is going to bring major relief to apartments owners living in unhygienic and pathetic environs within CIDCO condominiums. The biggest issue of CIDCO condominiums is the decade’s old sewerage and water pipelines. Most residents living within condominiums hail from economically weaker background and could not carry out timely repair and maintenance work. And the increasing population only aggravated these civic issues. Since, NMMC did not have a policy in place to spend funds inside CIDCO condominiums, the conditions of water and sewerage pipelines became worse by the day, raising grave health issues for residents. In wake of the gravity of the issue, Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik followed up the matter with the Chief Minister’s office and finally got a policy in place that permitted NMMC to carry out civic work inside condominiums.

NMMC Hospital foundation ceremony
Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik performed the bhumipujan ceremony of the NMMC 100 beds hospitals coming up at Nerul and Airoli.
The NMMC is finally going to begin construction of two 100 beds Mother Child Hospitals in Airoli and Vashi as Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik performed the bhumipujan ceremony of both the hospitals. Both the hospitals will be constructed by Supreme Infrastructure India Ltd. The 100 beds Mother – Child Care Hospital in Sector 15, Nerul will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 33 Crores 74 lacs 83 Thousand 539 in a time period of 28 months. While the 100 beds Mother – Child Care Hospital in Sector 3, Airoli will be constructed by Supreme Infrastructure India Ltd. for Rs. 34 Crores 69 lacs 15 thousand 455 in a time period of 20 months. There are many middle class families living in Nerul and Airoli who during any medical emergencies had to either rush to the hospital at Vashi or private hospitals. These two hospitals will bring relief to them. A blood storage centre was also inaugurated at hospital. Speaking to the media, Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik credited the Commissioner for taking the initiative for the hospitals.
The other dignitaries present during the bhumipujan ceremonies included MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik, Mayor of Navi Mumbai Anjani Bhoir, NMMC Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik and Navi Mumbai Congress Chief Namdeo Bhagat.
Water mgmt award for Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC)
For the second consecutive year, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has bagged the National Urban Water Award 2009 for excellence in water management and service to urban poor.
The award was instituted by the Government of India in 2008. The award, instituted by the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), is aimed at honouring urban local governments and water boards that had taken significant steps towards effective water management and improvement in service delivery.It was only befitting that Sandeep Naik received the award, since he was instrumental in getting the pipelines laid to bring the water to the city, the dam for which was envisioned by his father Ganesh Naik in early 2000 and the plan was executed by his older brother Sanjeev Naik, who was then the Mayor of Navi Mumbai, despite much opposition from all quarters.

Relief for Yadavnagar residents as standing committee sanction’s three proposals for toilets
The NMMC has floated the proposal of constructing two public toilets in Yadavnagar of Airoli for nearly Rs. 50 lacs. To find out how necessary this civic work, Monika Bhosale traveled to Yadavnagar for an investigative report and found out that equally important is for NMMC to float the proposal of a municipal school at the earliest.
The locals are however happy ever since the NMMC Standing Committee approved the bid of Yashraj Infrastructure to re- construct three toilets at the cost of Rs. 77 lacs 35 thousand 959. The three new toilets will come as a major relief to the locals and will solve one of their most burning issues. Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik informed that while the toilets are needed, he has ordered the administration to take up the work for a school too at the earliest.
Redevelopment of old buildings in city
The long wait is finally over. As promised by Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik last week, Chief Minister sanctioned some key, long-pending issues that were bothering residents of Navi Mumbai for long.
The main issue remains the sanctioning of additional FSI of 2.5 for residents of JN1 and JN2 buildings in Vashi and permission to rebuild these dilapidated structures, some of which need urgent repairs.
Residents of JN1 and JN2 are rejoicing over the announcement made by state government. Ex-corporator Kishore Patkar said, "It was a long-pending proposal and residents of these buildings were waiting for last 15 years for a decision in this matter. We are indebted to Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik who kept his word and followed up on the matter regularly."

NMMC Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik filed his nominations as the NCP-Congress candidate from Airoli. One of the youngest candidates in the race to the assembly, Sandeep Naik will fight the elections against Shiv Sena-BJP candidate.
NMMC Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik filed his nominations as the NCP-Congress candidate from Airoli constituency. Till the last minute the NCP party had not made any formal announcement about his candidature but like we said earlier, there is no other leader with an impeccable track record of personal conduct, public work like that of Sandeep Naik. Also the resources and mass following of Ganesh Naik are needed to take on the Shiv Sena BJP alliance candidate Vijay Chougule from Airoli. Hundreds of party workers and corporators arrived outside Saraswati Vidyalaya at Airoli - the nomination center for Airoli constituency in support of Sandeep Naik's candidature.
Sandeep Naik visits Navratri in Airoli
To seek the blessings of goddess Durga, NCP Airoli candidate Sandeep Naik visited the Navratri mandals at Gotivali. Sandeep Naik also visited the household durga idols and interacted with the residents.
The streets of Gotivali in Navi Mumbai were decorated and lit up with the festive lights but what made the atmosphere charged, was the presence of NCP’s youth candidate from the Airoli assembly constituency Sandeep Naik. Dressed in a simple white kurta, Sandeep Naik exuberated the aura of youth and dynamism. In lieu of the upcoming state assembly elections, he visited the various Navratri mandals of the node to seek the blessings of the Goddess Durga. At the same time he also visited household durga idols and interacted with the people. The locals showed their gratitude to this young leader and welcomed him with shawls, bouquets and smiles.
Grassroots presence holds key- Ganesh Naik
NCP which has 48 corporators out of total 95 in NMMC enjoys stronghold at the civic level since party has representative in almost every part of the city. In 2005 civic polls, NCP contested without alliance and received 1,44,000 votes from across the city which is almost three times more than their opponents.
"Our strength is more than our opponents. During 2005 civic elections, we received 78,000 votes in Belapur while in Airoli we got 66,000 votes, while Shiv Sena and Congress received 15,000-18,000 votes in both the regions. This indicates that our presence is much more than them. Besides, after coming to power, we have processed and carried out developmental works worth Rs 10,000 crore. All these factors will definitely work in our favour," senior NCP leader from the city.
However, this assembly election is witnessing many changes in political circle, especially in Belapur constituency where sitting MLA Ganesh Naik is contesting as NCP-Congress alliance candidate and has been pitted against renowned builder and BJP-Shiv Sena candidate Suresh Haware. Initially, this election seemed an easy victory for Naik.

There would be no deviation on account of politics, since we will all be on the same side, with the same goal and the same vision. Talking specifically about the Airoli constituency, I have a lot of micro plans. One of them is to revive the industries in the Thane-Belapur Industrial Area, which will create a lot of new jobs and give a boost to the local economy.

NMMC Headquarters could be the country’s new iconic marvel
The satellite city would be soon getting an iconic structure in the form of the NMMC Headquarters under construction at CBD Belapur.
It’s been fourteen long years that the first plans of the NMMC HQ was floated by NMMC on the same plot in Koperkhairane where one can see the Reliance Beverly Park. After the bhumipujan in 1995, NMMC gave the reason of the dumping ground being close to the plot and rejected the plot. Finally it was under the headship of first Mayor Dr. Sanjeev Naik, that the NMMC HQ plot was zeroed at the Belapur site but jinx plagued the project due to technical hitches and environment clearances. However, all problems were taken up head on by NMMC until finally the bid to construct the HQ was re-tendered and awarded to Ashwini Infra-development Engineer and Contractors Pvt. Ltd. The latter bid the lowest for constructing the project that is Rs. 89 Crore 99 Lacs 47 Thousand 670. With the construction on the site already in full swing, we met the architects of this iconic structure of the city, Hiten Sethi and Associates. The CEO of the company, that corporation buildings are more of a pride for a city. This particular structure took four attempts but it is finally underway.

150 acres of water body to be beautified into recreational space at Nerul holding pond
To the delight of Navi Mumbaikars, the satellite city is soon going to be gifted with an entertainment and recreational centre at the water body at sector 26 of Nerul. The NMMC General Body approved the estimated expenditure of Rs 98.40 crores for beautification of this holding pond adjacent to the Palm Beach Road.
This one would definitely account for that as they plan to give the structure a crystal kind of look and would be calling it the Jewel of Navi Mumbai. The proposed beautification plan includes an entrance plaza, parking facility, toilets, walkways, jogging track, food plaza, exhibition ground, gymnasium, swimming pool, health spa, indoor games facility, hotel, party lawn, aquarium, sand pit, butterfly garden, botanical garden, picnic park and gardens.
The unique feature and the main tourist attraction is likely to be the bailagio which works on the fire on water concept. While the work on the basic infrastructure would be done in the first phase, the beautification of the water body is proposed to be done through the Public Private Partnership. Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik voiced confidence of the work that Hiten Sethi will do and says that since the project will be made on PPP basis, it would also generate revenue for NMMC.
11th Saraswati Samaroh 2009 held in Navi Mumbai
The Gujrati community has contributed a lot in the development of Navi Mumbai. The community brought together all the members under one roof under the event Saraswati Sammelan 2009. The event was held at Gujrat Samaj in Vashi. Present as the chief guest was Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik, MP Sanjeev Naik and NMMC Standing committee chairman Sandeep Naik. Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik lit the traditional lamp to seek the blessings of the lord. Speaking to the media, he appreciated the contribution made by Gujrathi community in the development of the city. During the programme, meritorious students were also felicitated with bronze, silver and gold medals. The members of the community felicitated MP Dr Sanjeev Naik with a souvenir. Dr Sanjeev Naik expressed his gratitude towards this honour.

Thursday's twin victories, combined with the fact that elder son Sanjeev (37) -- a former Navi Mumbai mayor -won a Thane Parliamentary seat in the national election held earlier this year, will boost Naik's status further within the NCP and cement the region's status as a family bastion.
The father-son duo successfully battled anti-incumbency, the emergence of the MNS and rebels candidates from the NCP and alliance partner Congress -- local Congress president Namdeo Bhagat (46) jumped into the fray as an Independent after he lost his ticket in seatsharing negotiations. The Naiks' main poll plank was development, with father and son repeatedly citing the Morbe Dam as a major achievement and promising more along the same lines.
