IPL Kolkata Knight Riders team skipper Sourav Ganguly is to skip the Olympics torch relay on April 17. Sourav Gnguly, who said Bhutia’s decision was his personal choice, said he had to attend the IPL inaugural clash with Bangalore Royal Challengers on April 18, which is why he can’t attend the run.
Indian football skipper Baichung had kicked up a row by refusing to take part in the torch-run ceremony to express solidarity with the Tibetan cause.
But Ganguly thankfully has a reason good enough to keep the overlords in West Bengal’s CPI (M) happy. Baichung Bhutia’s decision was described by the Marxists as ‘embarrassing’. (Embarrassing, because it exposed India as a non-Communist country. The Chinese must be shocked!)
