Australian TV Channel 10 to telecast IPL Twenty20 live
Australia’s Channel 10 has secured the rights to telecast Indian Premier League Twenty20 competition for five years in a deal worth almost $15 million.
This essentially means Australian fans will have the chance to witness IPL’S Twenty20 competition, which will have 59 matches spread over 44 days. The IPL Twenty20 championship starts on April 18.
The weekend matches played in India will be telecast from around 7.30 p.m Australian time, while the IPL Twenty20 matches played on Tuesdays., Wednesdays and Fridays will be telecast from 11.30 p.m.
Many Australian cricketing brains have questioned the viability of the deal, as they believe Australian TV viewers may not burn midnight oil to watch the games.
Aussie stars including captain Ricky Ponting, Andrew Symonds, Adam Gilchrist and retired Aussie greats Glen McGrath and Shane Warne are participating in the tournament.
Shane Warne is the Captain-cum-coach of Jaipur IPL team, part-owned by Media baron Rupert Murdoch’s son Lachlan Murdoch.
