Hyundai today launched premium hatchback Getz to enlarge its product portfolio and boost sales. Getz will be available in two variants - GL and GLS, pegged at Rs 4.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and Rs 4.75 lakh respectively, Hyundai Motors India MD Byong Ho Sung said in New Delhi. Hyundai is also investing $220 millon dollars to ramp up its production capacity to 2.5 lakh units at its plant in Sriperumbudur near Chennai. The target is 8,000 Getz sales this fiscal. By October-November, the capacity of the A2 line, on which Getz would be produced along with other models like mid-size sedan Accent Viva, premium sedan Elantra and luxury car Sonata, would be increased to 2,000 units from 1,000 units now, president BVR Subbu said. But Hyndai is not planning any Getz disel in the near future. The Getz has close to 65 per cent local content, which will go up to 80 per cent in ayear. Hyundai is yet to decide on whether to make India an export hub for Getz’, which would be produced only in India, outside Korea," he said.
