July 14, 2005: Now a multimedia campaign encourages US women to talk to their doctor on menopause.
Launched by Wyeth, the awareness programme includes ads on network and cable television and an online resource,
www.talkingtoyourdoctor.com
, where women can find out more about the condition and access new information about their health during and after the menopause.
Featuring actress Cheryl Ladd, the campaign urges the US women to `get the facts' about the condition.
Menopause is an important milestone in a woman's life and a good time to address everything from menopausal symptoms to bone loss, exercise and nutrition. There is so much new information on menopausal health that has been learned in recent years, an official release said.
In 30-second television spots, Ladd emphasises the role of doctors and other healthcare professionals in helping women through the menopause. As part of the campaign, she encourages women to `get the facts' from healthcare professionals who now know more than ever about the symptoms and impact of the condition.
The web resource accompanying the campaign gives women access to general tips on how to talk to a doctor about the menopause, and information on postmenopausal osteoporosis and increased risks of other health conditions. It also has a `symptom accessor' - a tool to track menopausal symptoms, their frequency, severity and possible impact on daily life.
Market research carried out by Wyeth suggests there has been a 30 per cent fall in the number of women visiting their doctor about menopausal issues in the last three years, the release said.
