TIGER AIRWAYS INDIA FLIGHTS |
Tiger Airways to start flights
from Indian cities to Singapore
Tiger Airways is set to
commence services between Singapore
and Chennai, Kochi, Goa,
Thiruvananthapuram, Kolkata and
Kozhikode.
21 June, 2007:
Get set to fly the Tiger! The
Singapore-based, low-cost carrier,
Tiger Airways, has reportedly received
the foreign carrier air permit from
India’s Department of Civil Aviation
to fly international flights between
Singapore and Indian airports.
A report said that Tiger Airways is
set to commence services between
Singapore and Chennai, Kochi, Goa,
Thiruvananthapuram, Kolkata and
Kozhikode. A report said that the
airline, which is owned partly by
Singapore Airlines, would announce its
route network to India after parleys
with Indian airport authorities at
different destinations. Singapore
Airlines holds 49 per cent in the
budget airline, while Temasek
Holdings, the Singapore government's
investment arm, owns 11 per cent.
Tiger Airways is rumoured to have
obtained rights to operate extended
twin engine operations, which enables
the airline to operate more efficient
direct routings between Singapore and
India.
The airline, when it becomes
operational between Singapore and
India, will become the only
Singapore-based low fare airline to
operate flights between the two
countries. With air space getting
crowded by the day over India, doing
business in the Asia Pacific region
has received a major boost. More
airlines would mean activity-filled
business opportunities, said an
analyst. This apart, the travel
industry is all excited with the news
of Tiger too flying to India.
Singapore has always been a favourite
destination for the leisure traveler
from India. The availability of a
low-cost carrier is expected to make
the scene even hotter.
