SOUTHAMPTON - AMSTERDAM

BMI flights from Southampton to Amsterdam

BY OUR AVIATION CORRESPONDENT
May 31, 2006

BMI will start new flights from Southampton to Amsterdam as the airline is establishing a new connection flight route between the two destinations. The BMI flights will operate four times daily from Monday to Friday to Netherlands. BMI will operate one flight on Saturday and two flights on Sunday.

The BMI flight timings are scheduled so as to meet the demands from both the businessmen and the leisure air travellers. This connection flight route establishes BMI's first flight from Southampton airport. BMI says it has recognized the importance of a connection route from Southampton to Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport.

"Amsterdam is a popular business and leisure destination as the national, financial and cultural capital of the Netherlands, but it is also an important continental gateway," said Nigel Turner, Chief executive, BMI.

The BMI flights will feature two classes, business and economy. The flight tickets for the route can be had from May 19, 2006. BMI is UK's second largest airline at one of the world's best connected airports, London Heathrow. It holds 12% of all take off and landing slots at London Heathrow and operates 1,700 flights a week. BMI has a fleet of 42 jet aircraft which have an average age of five years.
