Shanghai Airlines and United Airlines have extended their flight cooperation to China, under a code-sharing agreement, which also includes international destination options and frequent flyer progammes for customers of both the carriers.
The routes of United Airlines listed under the agreement include Shanghai to Chicago and San Francisco; San Francisco to Los Angeles, Newark and New York (John F Kennedy International Airport); and Chicago to Newark and New York (LaGuardia International Airport).
Shanghai Airlines flights included in the agreement depart from Pudong International Airport in Shanghai to Shenyang, Chengdu, Dalian and Qingdao.
The code-sharing agreement is scheduled to begin from May 15, which is subject to US government approvals. On commencement of the agreement, customers of both the carriers will be able to accrue and redeem frequent flyer miles and use airport lounges of both the airlines.
"Shanghai Airlines was awarded the right to operate flights between China and US in 2005 after China's liberalisation of the aviation market, specifically on China-US routes. The code-share agreement between the carriers will provide passengers travelling between China and US with more flight options, convenient connections and improved service," Shanghai Airlines Chairman Zhou Chi said in a statement.
Shanghai Airlines and United Airlines have been cooperating in a number of areas for over 10 years, he said. Customers will be able to travel on a single ticket, either from China or US, for an trans-Pacific journey.
