Kenmore Air will launch flights from Seattle's Boeing Field to Wes Lupien Airport near Oak Harbor from May 22, the airline officials said in a statement. The new services will have four daily flights operating in the routes.
Kenmore Air had been working with US Navy, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to secure an approved approach procedure to Wes Lupien airport, the
airline said. Kenmore Air is said to have made "significant" investments in the Wes Lupien airport, which has not been functioning for the last 5 years.
Tim Brooks, Kenmore Air vice president of flight operations said, "Getting the instrument approach back was absolutely essential to our ability to provide the level of safety and reliability of service our travellers deserve."
As part of the new flight launch, passengers travelling between Oak Harbor and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport can have a free ride between SeaTac and Boeing Field, the Kenmore officials said. The
inaugural one-way fare would be $29.
Kenmore Airlines also operates from Boeing Field to various Washington destinations. Kenmore Airlines is best known for its Lake-Union based sea plane operation.
